This unique property was originally homesteaded in the early 1900's by A.J. Swanson.
In the 1930's it was part of Roosevelt's New Deal (the plan to help Americans recover from the Depression) and was the home to a relocated family from the States. Johan Johnson his wife Irene and their only child from Anatol, MN drew the farm in the colony lottery in 1935. Like many other colonists the farm was used for hay and small crops.
Our dairy barn and current home of Pioneer Ridge B&B inn, was built in the 1960's, and housed one of the Valleys prized Dairy Farms. Fairview Dairy. A partnership, involving the pooling of resources, including the animals, buildings, equipment and operational expenses was created between two amazing families. Joe/Myrtle Gisalson and Bob/Merlie McCombs. The dairy operated for approximately 6 years and held approx. 100 head of dairy cows.
